Chief Jim Peterson

Chief Jim Peterson began his fire service career as an on-call fire fighter with the Thomas Township Fire Department in 1981. He was named Assistant Chief in 1988 and was appointed Chief in 1991. In 2005, Chief Peterson was appointed Fire Chief in Saginaw Township, a combination department with six full time and ninety-two paid on call fire fighters covering 27 square miles with a population of 41,000.

Chief Peterson has been a member of the IAFC since 1994 and served as President of the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs from 2002 to 2004. He is Past President of the Southeastern Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs and the Saginaw County Fire Chiefs Association. Currently he serves as Vice Chair of the Saginaw County 911 Operations Committee, a board member of the Northern Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs, and represents the MAFC at the committee level. Chief Peterson obtained his degree in Fire Science from Delta College and received his Chief Fire Officer Designation in 2003.
