John Schuldt
John
Schuldt
Started his career as a
part-time firefighter in Carpentersville in
1977. Earned his EMT-A status and was hired as a
full-time firefighter in 1980 in
Carpentersville. He worked his way up through
the ranks, positions included Paramedic,
Engineer, Truck Operator, and Lieutenant. In
1996, he was appointed to the position of Fire
Chief and currently holds that position with the
community as well as the Emergency Management
Director.
He
achieved his education while working as a
full-time firefighter. In 1985, he earned his
Associates Degree in Fire Science and Safety
from
Elgin
Community College.
In 1995, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fire
Science Management from Southern Illinois
University and in 2000 earned his Masters in
Public Administration from Northern Illinois
University. In 2002, he was in one of the first
groups of Chiefs to be designated as a Chief
Fire Officer by the then Commission on Fire
Accreditation and Chief Officer Designation, now
Public Safety Excellence. Today, he serves as a
peer reviewer for those striving to earn this
designation.
In
May 2001, he was asked by his Village board to
serve as Acting Village Manager. The Village
faced several key village staff positions that
were vacant and the need to develop a village
budget, at the time, $40 million. John was
responsible for a staff of 300 people during his
twelve months as acting manager until his return
to Fire Chief in May 2002. The Village Board
asked to stay in the position but his love for
the fire service returned him to his Chief’s
position.
In
addition to holding the Chief Fire Officer
Designation, he also is a graduate of the United
States Fire Academy-Executive Fire Officer
Program and holds a State of Illinois Fire
Officer III certification.
John
served on the executive board of the Illinois
Fire Chiefs from 1999-2007, serving as the
President in 2005/2006. He currently serves on
the Illinois Fire Advisory Commission being
appointed by Illinois Governor Quinn in 2010,
President of the
Illinois
Fire Services Association since 2008, President
of the Kane County
Investigators Task Force, since it was
established in 2006, a mentor for students
enrolled in the Masters of Public Administration
program at Northern Illinois University, on the
Academic Advisory Board of Southern Illinois
University-Fire Science Program, and
participates in a weekly student mentoring
program at a community elementary school. By
virtue of being President of the Illinois Fire
Services Association, he served on the State of
Illinois Terrorism Task Force and currently
serves as a member of the Illinois Fire
Chiefs-Fire Chief of the Year Committee.
He served as President of
MABAS Division #2 from 2000-2006, President of
Kane County Fire Chiefs Association in 2000 and
2003, and member of the founding board of the
local Boys and Girls Club which now serves over
1,000 children.
His
achievements include being awarded the Fire
Safety Commendation Award in 2006 by the Sons of
the American Revolution as well as the
Humanitarian Service Metal for response to the
Utica tornado from Illinois Fire Chiefs
Association and MABAS.
John
was honored to be awarded the 2011 Illinois Fire
Chiefs Association, Fire Chief of the year in
the category of communities with more than a
population of 25,000. He has also received
numerous scholarships from local chamber of
commerce, Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, and
the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
John
married his wife Michelle in 2010, and together
have three daughters,
Katlyn, Jessica, and
Rebecca.
